Eddie Would Go

December 8, 2009 - Eddie's a Go! After waiting years for the perfect surfing conditions to run the prestigious big wave contest, the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational was finally on at gorgeous Waimea Bay on the North Shore. The contest has only happened 8 times in its 25 years of running because of their strict standard for huge, beautiful, bone-crushing waves. The waves were massive, the crowds were 20,000+, and the energy in the bay was incredible as the surfers took on natures power. It was an amazing day of surfing to see.

Eddie Almost Goes...

We awoke before the sun rose and headed to the North Shore in search of big waves and the hopes of hearing 'Eddie Would Go'- to witness the first Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational in 5 years. These were the biggest waves since 1998, 30-50 foot swells rolling into Waimea Bay created giants these brave surfers rode with grace and determination. Eddie waited one more day to go, but all the surfers were out in fearless form trying out the waves before the big day. People lined Kamehameha highway and walked miles to be a part of what all the Pacific was buzzing about.
